Bridging the Gap to the Future
Ciera Dent is a community advocate and catalyst of change. Born March 26, 1987 to Jeffrey Dent Sr. and Lena McClain, Ciera has lived a life of resilience. After having spent time in foster care with her 8 siblings, at the age of 6 she moved to Harrisburg, PA with her father and older brother. Her family spent 5 years in the city of Harrisburg before relocating to Steelton, PA.
While in Steelton, Ciera attended Steelton-Highspire Elementary and graduated in 2005 from Steelton-Highspire High School. She graduated as a member of Upward Bound and The National Honors Society. Ciera attended Cheyney University as a Biology major and completed 30 credits before returning home due to her first pregnancy. She did not let this stop her from her studies as she enrolled into Keystone Technical Institute and received her Associate's Degree as a Medical Assistant Specialist. Her love and compassion to help people has followed her throughout her life's journey. She spent 10 years serving as a Medical Assistant to some of Central PA's best medical providers before accepting a position as an Education Liaison with United Way of Central Pa. She served in this capacity and also volunteered as the Parent Engagement Coordinator for Steelton-Highspire School District in 2018.
As a single mother of 4 beautiful children, Ciera wanted to find a way to help those who have struggled in single parent homes and/or are considered low income families, so she founded The Resource Center for Hope. The mission is to help low-income families with every day essential items and resources. in 2018, TRCH hosted its first community event which was a Summer bookbag giveaway. They were able to give away over 150 bookbags and also gave away toiletries, gift cards, and household cleaning products. She later collaborated with Young Women's Empowerment Academy and co-founded Overcoming Single Motherhood, currently known as The M.R.S. Community-Moms Redefining Sisterhood. Through their membership program, she mentors mothers through self care, healing from past hurt and traumatic experiences all while teaching them how to be a healed woman first, mom second. Her love and compassion for women and mothers led her to self publish three books where she share journeys throughout her life in hopes of being a light for others trying to find their way. As a licensed and ordained minister, Ciera's life passion is to teach others how to overcome and navigate through life's challenges with poise, strength, faith and resilience.
